There’s something pretty incredible about a wedding day that feels like an adventure—and Ted + Kelsey’s wedding at Starved Rock State Park was exactly that.

Nestled along the Illinois River in Oglesby, Illinois, Starved Rock is one of the most beautiful and unique places in the state to get married. With towering sandstone canyons, lush forest trails, dramatic overlooks, and waterfalls tucked throughout the park, it offers a wedding photography experience that feels completely different from a traditional venue.

And for Ted + Kelsey, it was the perfect backdrop.

Starved Rock State Park is one of those places where you can turn a corner on the trail and suddenly find yourself standing in front of an incredible view. The combination of rock formations, winding trails, towering trees, and seasonal waterfalls creates endless possibilities for wedding portraits.

Rather than relying on a single location for their couple’s portraits, Ted + Kelsey embraced the park and made their photos part of the adventure.

One of my favorite parts of their day was taking their couple’s photos down near the waterfall in St. Louis Canyon.

St. Louis Canyon is one of the standout photography locations at Starved Rock—and for good reason.

The canyon walls create this incredible natural frame around the waterfall, while the surrounding trees and sandstone give the images a sense of depth and texture. It feels secluded, dramatic, and completely removed from everyday life.

It was the kind of location where Ted + Kelsey could forget about everything else happening around them and simply enjoy being together.

And that’s one of my favorite things about photographing adventurous couples: the location becomes part of the story.
